It would be really nice to have a board where campers could post that theyve set up camp on, so when hiking in you can see whether there will be anywhere you can officially set up on. I couldn't imagine getting out with all my stuff just to be disappointed
Hiked Graveyard trail section and camped. The trail blazes are well marked in both direction. Be prepared to walk across beaver damsThere are plenty of places to pitch a tent with established fire pits. We saw turtles, hatched turtle eggs, deer, frogs, chipmunks, an otter and lots of bugs. There are ticks. We saw at least one bear skat. We hung our food PCT style and had no problems.
This is another park that our last government created to make it less accessable to the general public to enjoy and stuff a whole bunch of rules and restrictions down everyone's throat.For many local family's this was a place that they could go and enjoy that didn't cost a lot. It seems. Now that it is the agenda of many bird watchers and ecotourist that this beautiful country we live in should only be enjoyed by people of their mindset. It's not easily accessible and most of the camping sights are not in places that anyone would actually pick to set up a tent on.
If youre coming in from devil's lake for a one night hike id highly reccomend staying at sheldon lake. 5 stars for that trip. The hike is gorgous and fun up until petticoat junction, after that its very very rough. I stayed at elizabeth lake and i highly regret it. Rocky uneven ground, very difficult to get to the water, not much space or shade. Interesting environments but unless youre one for rough terrain i wouldnt go past the junction. the trail can get a little confusing at times after sheldon lake. Ended up making several unnessesary detours. Going back to a campsite at sheldon lake felt like a luxury hotel in comparison haha. Cool place overall.
Pleasantly surprised by quality of the trails. The feeling of being out in the middle of the woods in strong. A great place to camp and hike for the weekend.
